I currently have 12" wheels and I am looking to put 13" deep dish wheels on instead - can I just bolt the new ones on I know I have to modify the arches but have I got to change the suspension ?

depending on the size you go for will determine what you need to do.

these will range from,

raising the suspension.

cutting the front arch/wing

fitting rack travel reducers to the rack.

not to mention the worse ride due to the lower profile tyres you will have to fit.

Most questions like this concern how to go from 13" to the much better 12".

Okay so the whole aim was to put deep dish wheels with fatter arches on the car so I though why not upgrade to 13" - would I be better to buy 6 x12" wheels instead ?

In a word, YES.

12" wheels are better because the tyre wall depth is deeper and that provides more suspension compliance which helps with the Mini's lack of suspension travel.

For what you want a 12" x 6" wheel with a 165/60 x 12 tyre would probably be best.

I have 13 inch deep dish wheels fitted to my Mini and love them. Modifications required to mudguard arches as necessary as per link. https://www.google.c... 13 inch wheels&*

This is necessary to stop wheels touching/rubbing on front of mudguard arches when steering on full lock.

Bad link it only goes to a Google search.

I gave already stated what needs doing.

And the ride is not as good.

Sorry about the incomplete link have corrected. We have several Mini's in our club with 13 inch wheels and none of us have problems with hard riding. I have disc brakes front and drums with spacers on the rear, adjustable front suspension caster/camber and camber rear with rear sway bar. I find with it set up correctly it rides and corners very well.

If I'm honest putting 13" is a lot more complicated than I first thought I knew I needed to do adjustment to arches and other bit an pieces , but for the sake of an extra 1" I think it would be cheaper and a lot easier to swap out my current 12" wheels for a set of deeper dish minilites :)

Although you will probably still have to trim the front wings

That's not a problem as I would have to fit wider arches anyway so I would trim the wings before fitting

Please not that if you do trim wings, it is essential to upturn the lip (the same as it is now) which you would normally fit moulding to otherwise you will loose the strength in front wing.

I won't be doing the mod my self , I work for my father in law @ a used car dealer we have a very good body shop that we used so he will be carrying out the work along with painting the wider arches which fitted so that will not be an issue but thank you for the advice
