Personally have never bought or fitted new track rod ends until recently ( bought not fitted yet) My question is should the new part be almost impossible to shift by hand? I thought maybe there should be some sort of fluid movement as it's brand new. Bought on ebay

The ball will be stiff in its socket, although you should be able to move it by hand. I would be very cautious though about getting such a safety critical part off eBay unless you are satisfied with its provenance.

Bought a pair and neither will shift by hand. Suppose I'd better bin them?

See if you can free them with a pair of pliers. They might just be stuck of they have been sitting for a while and they make free up a bit after being wiggled about a bit.

The last one I got was like that but a bit of leverage with a ring spanner got it moving, still tight but it can be moved by hand now.

I've been recommended to use ones from a Triumph herald next time I replace them as there regreaseable.

The way that Rod Ends have to be made, there's next to no chance of the pin pulling through the body. If you look at them, the side opposite the pin is the cover which is usually crimped or swagged on. It's from that side that the Pin can only come out.

All those I've looked at have a spring loaded seat, so they are all 'tight' until they have had it.

I also express some caution with the greasable types. They don't normally need re-greasing and adding grease can cause splitting of the boots.

I agree with this, I never fit regreaseable track rod ends as they're more expensive to purchase

The reason for using the Triumph Herald type is because they are longer and give sufficient thread engagement if negative camber bottom arms are in use. The standard part is dangerous in that condition as thread engagement is insufficient.

I suspect that later Triumph parts will not have the grease nipple. Or there will be another alternative.

Edit: The Triumph parts are cheaper than the extra length part from Mini suppliers.

Oh, and the appearance of the Ebay parts above suggests that they are non-genuine and probably Chinese junk. For safety's sake I would suggest not using them, not procuring any other safety-critical parts except those having a known and reputable manufacturer.
