Wheel Arch Fitting

Best Answer Rapidmini59 , 17 April 2017 - 06:26 PM

Arches are done.
Took a couple of hours to do all four.
Drilled and screwed on with stainless self tappers.
Good fit,bit of trimming up to suit each arch.
Need to take back off now and paint.
Cheers for the info guys.

What do you need advice on? Or are you looking for physical assistance?

Cheers

Hi screech.
Bit of both really
I think i can fit the rears ok but the fronts will be a nightmare.
I have an original front end but i have made it removable for ease of access for everything and i always use to smash my head on the bonnet catch on my old mini some 20 years ago.
So what would be a good idea for the front end arches as i dont want to cut them at the A panel it would look bad.
I also dont want to bolt/screw any of the arches to the body i want to bond them on.
What do people suggest as a good bonding, i did think of marine sealant, as it goes off firm but if the arches need to come off in the future i can without causing damage to them.
Any thoughts

to be honest if you bond them on the won't be that secure and may damage the paint.

you either need to cut at the apanel and bond them on

or bolt them on so you can remove them when you take the front off

I don't think you can have both. unless you only bond them onto the wing section and leave the A panel part unbonded and cut off the lip of the a panel

Cheers lawrence
I think i will have to cut them after all.
But if its done well then it may not look as bad as i am imagining.

I wouldn't advise on bonding them. How come you don't want to use screws?
If you bond them, what about the screw holes in the arches?
I've got a removable front end, and I've just screwed my arches as normal, and when I need to take the front end off I just take the 2 screw from the a panel and flex the arches over the seam.

I was going to bond them as the arches dont have any holes at present.
They have the points in which to drill and screw but i thought it may have looked better being bonded on.
They still have to be trimmed and painted yet.
Will probaly fix with screws and seal up the holes with underseal so water cant get in and rot the arches out.
Thanks for the info.
Will post a pic once i have done them.
