Engine Only Runs With Ignition Switch Held On

Long story short I got her running but only when the ignition key is held in the start position. (starter motor spinning with engine)
Before I go and buy a new ignition switch is there anything else I should check for? Theres a constant 12v to the coil.
Thanks, T.

It's obvious that you have a two way current circuit to your coil. When you apply the starter mode with the schwitch key, there is going 12 volt to the coil. And when you let loose the key there should go 9 volts via a 'resistance' line to the coil. This circuit is broken obviously.

Yes, as above- the pink wire to the coil isn't connect/ is broken/ or the ballast resistor itself is broken or faulty.

Yes, trace the wire back. The resistor itself is an inline ceramic item, they can and do break, either from physical damage or if they get wet etc.

On a mini the wire itself is the resistor ;)

Is the resistor not the pink and white wire itself?

I thought there was an inline resistor? A ceramic-cased piece of wire? Sure I broke one once?!
Have you checked voltage at the pink/ white wire t.Dog?
