I had some aftermarket seats that had a different style hook that didn't seem to hold very well

'76 I'd guess, can't think of any safety mods done by the factory that weren't forced on 'em by legislation. Seat security is part of the MoT.

If your car has the metal brackets in the floor, you would need to fit the correct anti-tip mechanism...
If it doesn't, I wouldn't have thought it would need them to be fitted to the seats....?
I know most Mini's have these fitted from the factory, but it might be that yours just didn't have them fitted originally.... Thats if the seats you are wanting to fit are the original to the car....
It also could be thats its a lawfull requirement to have these fitted, but am unsure about the legislation surrounding them....

my book says they were introduced to the mini in October 1975. don't know when they became a legal requirement ??
