HATE MINI FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS!

Always thought that the wheel bearing torque settings for disc braked Minis were extremely high and when I was driving them as daily drivers they never seemed to last particularly long. I used to think the drum brake bearings were simpler to replace and longer lasting but I have a NSF hub on my Mk1 that I simply cannot get to fit correctly without play. MOT testers have been "lenient" with it given the very limited miles it does each year but I really must get it fixed properly. Have changed bearings about 3 times, drive flange and hub (Second hand. New NSF hubs dont seem to be available anymore!). Only thing not changed is the CV joint.

All torqued up, there is still a midge of play. The driver side is fine. I may try another CV joint. I have the single hole type so torqued up good n tight.

Would worn bearings inside the CV joint itself cause this??

Also the wheel is sitting not square. What I mean is the top of the wheel is sticking out further than the bottom so the wheel isn't at 90 deg to the floor. Is this OK. (standard arms/tie rods etc)

With it all torqued up, if there's still play you can feel by rocking the assembly by hand, then it's not the CV.

It will be either worn Bearings and / or a worn Hub - or the Tapered Washer as discussed on the previous page.

The Angle that your wheel is sitting at does sound normal, but maybe a photo would be best here. If you roll the car back and forth a bit, you might find most of that will settle out.
