Hey guys,

I have on my hands a 2009 Mini Cooper S Cabrio (R57 Convertible) which went through a major overheat and now needs an engine rebuild or a new engine. Trying to source a second hand engine atm and have some queries. Judging by info at http://new.minimania...el_designations my model uses a N14B16A engine but is only limited to the 2009 through to July 2010 production so I'm having a lot of difficulty trying to locate one. The R56 hatches and R55 clubmans used the same engine for a wider period of time. Are these engines interchangeable without any further conversion even though they come from R56 and R55 variants? One mechanic friend informed me the electronics may have an issue recognizing the engine and refuse to run but I'm a bit lost in the mechanical world so thought I'd see if anyone on here is any wiser. Just want to make sure the engine I source won't have further complications when I find a mechanic to install it.

Thanks for any help!

Someone here may know but this Forum is for the Classic Mini, which ceased production in 2000.

About the most technologically sophisticated thing in our cars is the radio ;D

Look at mine <-  it doesn't even have doors or windows!
