Hi all

 

I have noticed with my mini rally car, that when I jack the rear of the car up, that sometimes the hi-lo falls out of place and becomes out of line from the suspension cone and before I lower the car back down, I have to re-centre the hi-lo back into the suspension cone.

 

Is this a common issues? and what can I do to stop this happening..Im worried that while on stage, if I do get airborne that the hi-lo may become dislodged! and that would give me some issues.

 

Any thoughts?

Have you fitted shortened dampers. I've found that when fully extended the shorter ones stop the radius arm dropping too much when jacking, so the Hilo bar stays put.

I'd doubt if you get airborne whilst driving the damper will extend that quickly anyway.

you have lowered it more than the shocks can manage, as above fit suitable shocks or raise the suspension.

 

and note the same can happen when going over bumps. not safe please rectify it be for driving.

How old are the Rubber Cones?

 

Is it a Gravel Rally Car or Tarmac?

The easiest way is to wind the hilo out a bit(raise the ride height) so that the trumpet is still located

Basic common scense should tell you that the lowest setting is when the cone and trumpet are just snug in the frame when the car is jacked up. If you want to go any lower then get shorter shocks.

Yeah they're the wrong ones... by the looks of it you certainly need the lowered ones

With stock rubber cones that are in good condition, you would be just OK with stock shock lengths (now I see the stance of your mini), however, the red spots are that much harder that they'd hardly be compressed.

 

Even lowered shocks may not be short enough with your set up. I'd suggest measuring the length of the shock at the point at which there's juts about no pressure on the cone before buying.
