My mate had one built 2 years ago for racing by mbe race engines spent a fortune on it. 16v
I mean big big money>>>>>>>>>>>
with all the most expensive bits you could buy. 1460 if i recall correctly
86mm crank.
In truth it never produced the power he hoped for and was a problematic build from day 1.
To cut a long story short in the first qualifying season it performed worse than his old 8 port engine and on lap 4 of the race the crank snapped and it seized up solid...
not a happy bunny and now wishes he took my advise on the crankshaft he used....
oh well you live and learn....

Matt Reed at Mini Mecca (Aust) builds them on a regular basis for customers for around 10 - 15 years now.
He doesn't have a website these days, but is on Facebook.

I wonder if the different firing order is creating some unusual harmonics?...................

the firing order is still 1342

EN40B is a great steel for making cranks from, but if Nitrided and done hap-hazardly, it makes them quite brittle.

Yes, and that's what concerns me with these conversions. Likewise the Honda Conversions too.
the firing order is still 1342
Not usually, especially if using the BMW Cams.

Plug order on K100's
Numbered from consecutively front to rear. Number 1 cylinder at front (Cam Chain) end. 4 cylinder at the rear (Clutch).
Firing order 1-3-4-2 (3-1-2 K75)
Front Coil 1 & 4 plug
Rear Coil 2 & 3 plug
Wiring, straight path for plugs 1-3 and plug 4 wiring looped around 3 plug cap.

Here is a quote from Matt Read (mentioned above) from this thread: http://www.ausmini.c...=77313&p=915364
the K-bike engine runs anti-clockwise & the cams are "concentric"
ie: same opening ramp as the closing rampso when we fit the cyl head onto the mini engine we can run the cams clockwise (same as the mini engine runs)
& when we do this the orientation of the lobes (running order) necessitates we use the 1243 order,,, simples really

That's how I've only known them to be. Same with the Honda Head Conversion.
<EDIT: Miglia Cars, your friend isn't running custom cams is he? I do have a vague recollection of after market cam(s) that did (do?) have the normal firing order for the A Series.>

did you time it up? could be why the crank broke....
a good ilustration there of why not to blindly bellive somthing on t'internet.

Hi firstly no I had nothing to do with the whole thing kept right out the way.
As it was at first a fun competition my build vs his..But as time went on and on and money was spent and spent the fun aspect went out the window...
felt for him as it wasnt fun in the end!!!
All I did was smirk to myself after the £20000 engine setup made 130hp on the rollers.
Then on the first race went pop pop pop.
I did warn him time and again about certain things, but it fell on deaf ears...
Im now thinking it was an 88mm crank not 86mm but cannot remember it was a few years since now..
From word go the 1200rs head build was time consuming over complicated and costly. Why!!! Im not sure as the kit used was the force racing kit which is tried and tested..and works!!!
And as mini13 has pointed out works really well and has been out there years, Jim loyns it now a real monster.
I know that everybody involved struggled to get the thing running. and running properly, It was on and off the rollers 20 times or more!!!!! riddled with small issues..
The cams used wore apparently ground especially for the engine... and not the factory ones 99.999% sure of that...
The engine has now been rebuild with new crank same stroke new rods pistons etc etc, It took nearly a year to rebuild but its back in the mini now, Not running as yet, Be interesting to see how it goes this time!!!
