Hi all,

Thrust bearing went in my 67 mini so changed it along with clutch release plunger but clutch still not working!!

Checked everything but here's the thing. Clutch pedal woking lovely but not engaging so could it be it's cooked the Clutch diaphram spring? (pre veto by the way and the diaphram is the orange one).

Cheers

Sorry, my first post - would normally say hi but at my wits-end!

thrust bearing?

or release bearing?

clutch is engaged and will not release or?

pedal moves but what happens at the arm? how much movement if any are you getting?

what condition is the ball on the arm like?

all pivot pins checked for wear?

plunger new or used?

Thanks for the quick response, I'll try and get this right:

thrust bearing? or release bearing? -  release

clutch is engaged and will not release or?

pedal moves but what happens at the arm? how much movement if any are you getting? - from what I gather the pedal works but not engaging

what condition is the ball on the arm like? - all new from minisport - arm and slave cylinder.

all pivot pins checked for wear?  plunger new or used? - yep all good. bearing, shaft, arm springs and slave cylinder all new

My father (ex mechanic in the 60s) is thinking pressure plate

Chatting to my mechanic - he says all the parts individually move but together it's rock solid.

so how much travel are you getting at the arm? stuff being new means nothing.

and your clutch is engaged. not disengaged. you press the pedal and it normally disengages.

there lies the problem - it's in with my mechanic so not sure without seeing it ;(

sounds to me like even though clutch is being pressed nothing is moving so gears can't be selected. He's going to text me some pics etc. so I'll seek out some more details and report back but appreciate your help.

:)

It an obvious question but I'll ask it anyway, have you set the correct clearance on the adjuster?

then ask your mechanic to answer the questions.

the arm should move at least 1/2" at the push rod point.

return stop should be set to 20 thou.

throw out nut should be adjusted to allow may travel and then turned in a flat (see haynes manual)

he assures me hes got the adjustments correct but I'll pop round Saturday and go though it with him. I'll have a better idea.

At least I have a couple of suggestions to throw at him.

Cheers all ;)

if the diaphragm had gone you would hear it and your clutch would be slipping all the time.
