So recently the mini conked out in an unexpected shower, so i fitted a splash guard (standard type).

Today i had an exam and had to drive the mini. It was pouring down so left very early with the intent of going slowly.

About halfway the car conkes out, didnt start etc despite the plastic splash guard.

On inspection the inside the dizzy was dry as was covered by the splash guard.

I was wondering if it could be anything else getting wet causing the issue?

If its just dizzy related then what else can i do apart from the plastic guard?

Cheers all.

Its points.

Ive just been and sized up the weather shield and two of the ht leads were running just out to the right of it. So im thinking water may have hit them and run down them to the dizzy end causing the issue?

So ive tied the ht leads together which shields them. Could it really be that simple?

I have never had a conk out related to the weather with no shield fitted. Sometimes a little cough or misfire but never a conk out. I would suggest going over your ignition with a fine tooth comb cleaning connections checking coil type and feeds are correct etc.

I don't run a shield at all as I feel they increase the temps inside the distributor. I've seen from this early capacitor failures and other problems.

A good cap, some silicon grease between it and the distributor is normally all that's needed to seal it. But I suspect the problem you are having is the leads themselves or more precisely the boots where they seal on to the cap and coil. These need to be quite tight and replaced about once a year.

Cheers all.

As its a fairly new aquisition i am steadily replacing parts as their age is unknown. Id already done the dizzy cap but not the leads so ill get some new ones in the post amd hope that helps.
