I'm considering replacing the mkIII taillights (with the built in reverse light) with the more classic looking mkII taillights.

The reason for the change is a purely cosmetic one, but I'd like to still have a reverse light, since the wiring is already there and it's safer to keep the reverse light.

I've seen lots of pictures of mkI/mkII Minis with a large round reverse light fitted to the boot, but I don't think it would suit my clubman. Also since I'm fitting a bunch of Mini 1275 GTS parts to my car and the early GTSs had small square reverse lights fitted, I was thinking small square Lucas/Hella reverse lights would look cool.

 These are the original examples:

(Two small plastic lights)

(A single centre light)

Since it may be difficult to source the original examples, I was thinking perhaps a small spotlight would work, but I'd like to know if anyone has any pictures and ideas for how it could look.

I was thinking of something like a Lucas LR15 square spotlight, but they seem a little big for a reverse light.

The ones on the red mini in the first pic look similar to these, witch are widely available for around a fiver each.

They really do look very similar. Although, the ones on the red GTS match the curvature of the rear valence.

Ive done the conversion and managed to fit a small fully glass reverse and fog lamp either side of my bumper. Couldn't fork out £100+ for a lucas lamp

I love that! They look perfect! Now to find another suitable light. Just picked up a cool reverse light yesterday. How did you mount the lights to the car?

Trailer front marker light?

Or you could discretely fit a high power led through, or under, the light cluster.

I Googled that, and they look pretty cool. Quite simple and would look nice with the square taillights.

I bought these two from Minisport and mounted both via 2 scrap shelving 'L' Brackets slightly bent to suit and fixed with a 5mm head pop-rivet into the pre existing holes in the rear valence. Wiring was simple with spade connectors and earthed.

Those look very similar to the one I was able to get. I'll visit a builder's shop and look for a decent bracket to use :)

I used the same ones on a project I've just broken for spares. Although I made up brackets the same profile as those of the front number plate for mine.

I do like the symmetry with the centre exhaust and auxiliary lights on either side of it.
