Hi,

I'm in the process of replacing my rear subframe and I'm having a problem removing the shaft that runs through the radius arms. I can remove the inner nut but the outer one just turns with the shaft. I don't really know what's inside the arm so any advice would be appreciated. This topic has probably been covered before -I've had a quick look at past posts. I must get a Haynes manual so that I won't need to ask simple questions like this one :dontgetit:

Any advice would be appreciated.

To remove the arm, you need to remove the camber bracket anyway so would not bust a gut about it, just remove the arm and bracket as one...

Alternatively, put the bolt back on the inner end of the shaft, do it up, and then undo the outer, and then undo the inner one again..

In addition to guessworks'ss''s comment, if it is still hard as nails to get off with one bolt try sticking two on the end that comes of and tightening them up against each other (if that makes sense!) then holding that end with a ring spanner you may be able to get enough purchase to get the other end off. Also use lots and lots and lots and lots of wd40 or similar penetrant to loosen it up as much as poss bout half an hour before tackling it. If that don't work hit it reallly hard with a really big hammer!

Won't solve the problem but will make you feel better!!!! :dontgetit:

Hope this helps!

I think Spud may mean the big pin that attaches the subframe to the brackets at the front of the rear subframe? Am I right? If so you can remove the subframe without undoing this. In fact, whatever the problem is it might be easier to drop the whole subframe with the radius arms etc attached them solve the problem with better access?

Radius arms now removed :dontgetit: thanks everyone!!

One other thing- how much play is acceptable in the radius arm pin?

I've checked the pins on both sides, one looks OK but the other one has corroded at the outer end where it runs in the bush. The bearing end is fine. Could I get away with just renewing the pin? I wouldn't want to put it all back together and then find it fails it's MoT because of it!!

abslutely no play at all is acceptable, rather than just replacing the pin ( as it's the bushes which wear ) would advise replacing with a recon arm in which the bushes have been reamed and fitted with new pin. Usually available for about 30 notes each side exchange.
