Where Can I Get A Brake Servo Filter ?

Best Answer tiger99 , 17 June 2017 - 09:43 AM

Felt disc would be more like it. You need quite a fine material. Scotchbrite is far too coarse. Maybe something cut from a face mask might be suitable? You probably get refills for them in Screwfix or Toolstation.

In my ancient Rover P4 the filter element lived inside a plastic cap that went over a stub on the body and was vented at the bottom edge so it was sort of like a miniature air filter and could be made like one from the same material. But in your case I can picture it clearly as I have seen them, and that technique would not work. Go to the full post

where can I get a brake servo filter ?

is it possible to make one ?

they seem to not be available any more

blocked / collapsed ones can affect braking

or are they not necessary anymore - surly air entering the servo needs filtering ?

or am I just an old f@rt worrying about nothing

Servos have filters? Only thing I know of on the lines is the non-return valve

Yes, they have always had filters. I faced a similar problem in 1973, not on a Mini, when the part I needed had gone obsolete. I improvised by making a new filter from a cut-up piece of air filter, the zig-zag stuff, neatly taped at the join and squeezed into its plastic housing.

But as I don't know which servo you have and into what space the filter must go, I can't tell whether that will work for you or not.

The filter for the later servo is still available here:

Failing that, Google for a servo rebuild specialist and see if they stock repair kits, which may contain a filter.

sorry I didn't think - it's a 1989 mayfair

bolted to bulkhead , non remote , filter behind rubber cap

took old one out  in a million bits , with a lot of dust

vacuumed the area , think I got all the carp out

wondering if a bit of scotch brite pad will work

or vacuum cleaner bubble mesh type filter -

I want something in there , the old one def stopped a lot of crud before it died

or maybe felt discs with a hole in , for push rod

I got face masks  , good idea

I reckon that will do

used to change them when I was an apprentice , can't remember doing a mini filter

they seem to be ignored now , unless they have a different way of doing it
