coils are filled with oil to help them cool.
as to what coil should be fitted it depends which dizzy and ignition system is fitted. and then if it has been modified at all.
but what problem are you actually having with the engine running?

What feed do you have to the coil direct 12v ? if so the coil should measure 3-3.5ohms between the coil + and - terminals

If the coil casing is too hot to keep you hand on it then it's probably running too hot.
Reasons for a coil getting too hot include:
- wrong coil, such as ballast duty coil fitted to non-ballast system
- dwell angle set incorrectly (points system only)
- coil feed voltage running too high
Best not to leave a coil on for any length of time without engine running.

thanks you have understood my problem exactly,i,am going to replace thecoil when i find out which one it should be,and iam a bit worried about feed voltage being too high as the wirings iffyIf the coil casing is too hot to keep you hand on it then it's probably running too hot.

But you need to find out what dizzy you have and what coil is fitted and if it is ballasted or not.
And as above check the resistance.
