Welcome to TMF. First thing to do is block down the sides of the rear bulkhead and any other holes there maybe, ie seat belt mounts, speaker holes in the parcel shelf etc.

Tape off the boot aperture as well, use brown paper sheet and masking tape here to help prevent overspray.

Now is the whole thing rust free?? if its minor surface rust then treat with Bilt Hamber Deox gel. Now make sure you get a good key on the existing paint if any?? Do make sure there is nothing flaking so flat back thoroughly.

Happy?? now use make sure all dust etc is removed, so either vacuum or use an air blower and vacuum.

All done??, now use panel wipe on every surface you can get to, then once dried off use tack rags to remove any small bits of dust.

Now you can apply primer, me i will be using epoxy primer on my car. Give it all a thin coat and check for any reaction. If nothing has bubbled etc then add several more coats.

Let it all dry off thoroughly making sure the primer has flashed off, if not then you will get topcoat reaction.

Flat back using 600-800 wet and dry. Vacuum then panel wipe followed by tack rag. Now you are ready for top coat.

There are lots of threads about paint and the biggest thing to remember is safety equipment. 2k paint is nasty stuff and needs specific breathing equipment more so than the other paint types. BUT always remember to use masks and eye protection no matter what the paint type. Even rattle cans.

Ben_O on here is the man to ask, very helpful and a professional painter. He has written me a guide for doing my car with regards to paint, filler types etc.

Ben_O has restored my son's mini and is now restoring my MG Midget, both threads can be seen on TMF so I second sonikk4's view that he's the man!
