Well that will be one way of hiding rust in the seams, bit extreme though.

I almost like it. But not quite, as it is ugly. On the other hand, so are the vast majority of modern Chelsea Tractors and lumpy, warty, bug-eyed saloons and hatchbacks. Styling has gone mad.
(Issigonis had no time for stylists, which partly explains why we love Minis so much.).
If I am not mistaken, it fits over the top of the steel front. Now that is why I detest bodykits, because they are used by both the ignorant and the criminal element of society to cover up terminal structural rust in various modern vehicles, so they will pass MOT despite being in extremely dangerous condition. However, a bodykit fitted over a structure that is properly rust protected and in good condition is another thing altogether. I see the possibility of filling the gap in between with structural foam and making a fair improvement to the limited crash protection of the Mini. If one ever comes my way, that is how I will use it.

I totally agree styling is at an all time low
eg.I used to like Mercedes style but I think their current range have overdone brash aggressive styling and bling. I don't think all the LED daytime running lights help making many cars look like mobile Christmas trees.

This was BL's safety Mini concept car in 1974.
Mini Clubman SRV4 Safety Research Vehicle 1974. One of the vehicles British Leyland produced as part of a joint safety project with the Transport and Road Research Laboratory. It features: a strengthened passenger cell, impact resistant low-mounted bumpers, fully padded interior, and pedestrian-friendly bonnet, longer wheelbase with engine moved forward, high door sills and relocated fuel tank.
SRV4 was based on the Mini Clubman, but featured an extended wheelbase to afford a greater frontal crumple zone. Again, the front of the car was also designed to be pedestrian-friendly, being both softer and smoother than that of the standard car, while other refinements included larger-diameter wheels with run-flat Denovo tyres, strengthened door sills and recessed door handles. The safety of the car’s occupants was catered for with copious padding."
This vehicle is kept at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon, UK.

Had a bit of Daimler Dart (SP250) parentage there too.
