Really Struggling so far fitting my front windscreen!

Managed to fit the rear screen with ease!

Using the same technique of placing rubber in hot water for a while, then soap around the glass i cant get the glass in though!

when the one side appears to be in the other side is nowhere near fitting,

any help with this?

many thanks

matt

It might help if you have a friend push the glass as you fit the rubber over it. Just take your time!

I had exactly the same problem and fitted the rear on my own too.

I have been trying this with a friend already which is the worst bit!

I think it will have to be a case of plenty of patience and swearing ahead.

Just take your  time, have some help at hand.

Don't use normal soap - it's full of salt.

A ¼ grated bar of dove in half a pint micro'd up for a minute creates the perfect salt free lube... for the job I hasten to add.....

O/H's pastry brush has never recovered :-)

The job is a pig so you have my sympathies - I've never used the para cord trick instead a worn out blunt tip screwdriver bent ever so slightly and an upholstery hook blunted on a stone have done the job for me.... worst one was putting a new screen originally destined for an spi into my '80 for some reason it fought me all the way and I thought it was never going to line up and then suddenly yay in it went.....

If it looks wrong it isn't necessarily when screen are concerned - just plod on.... if frustrated  - have a brew. and a fag if so inclined, and it goes easier after that!

Did both screens a few weeks ago with the help of a mate. Used some diluted wash/wax in a spray bottle, that worked quite well but probably could have done with being a bit less dilute. Like others have said take your time and it will go in, plenty of pushing thumping and persuading needed. But fitting the finishing strip? my forearm is still aching from wiggling that fitting tool O_O

Make sure the rubber sits on the windscreen aperture correctly, then i use a spray of multi-lube, and lever a but of the rubber with a plastic lever. Then it is just a case of sliding the lever around the screen.

I am by no means an expert but having done this  couple of times I reckon i can have a screen in ,in under 5 minutes.

2 good suction pads to hole date screen help a lot too.

Have you got the rubber the right way around? Theres a wider gap one side for the window. I didn't use any lube fitting the screen just tyre lube when fitting the fillet strip.

There are some significant differences between glass sizes, most of the time it's not enough to cause a problem but if the scuttle has been replaced it can become an issue.

I can't tell you how many tools I used to get our screen in - everything came out of the tool box! Only then to go back out the next day to find it cracked. Picked another screen out of the parts bin and it was almost 5mm smaller and fitted with no trouble at all.

So patience, plenty of lube and lots of different tools. (Stop sniggering at the back!)
