These are the readings, 1 being nearest to radiator
1. 159 PSI
2. 132 PSI
3. 132 PSI
4. 159 PSI

The car runs fine though I am getting a puff of smoke on
Overrun when I have just put my foot down. Also the exhaust has a lot of black soot on it but the plugs seemed ok.
Could there be an issue with the head gasket between 1&2
Or is this a piston ring nightmare.

Have you tried a drop of oil through the plug holes and rerunning the test? That's the usual tactic to further diagnose piston rings. Burnt oil with clean plugs could be exhaust valves & guides. A leak down test is the next step if you want to put off stripping it down.

Also take it you had all the plugs out during the tests?
