Protecting Bare Steel From Rust Without Paint

hi! Are there any good methods or products out there that will prevent bare shiny steel from rusting. I have cleaned up and polished the oil feed to filter housing and the oil pressure gauge takeoff and they look so good id really like to leave it bare steel!

 

the cars not a daily but does have to live outside although I don't mind regular cleaning/protecting if need be.

or varnish i suppose ..think its not what ya use its how othen you repeat it like every 4 months like leather seats need feeding..

 

sreve220 was on about some thing called poor boys polish, the other day going over his wheels with lacquer to protect them don't know if that would work with the heat??

Please don't do it on structural parts, unless you fully understand the implications of hydrogen embrittlement and the precautions needed to avoid it. OK for the parts mentioned, but HE is a real killer when applied to things like suspension and steering.

Yes and good point. I do de-gas them following plating and that removes any embrittlement.
