With you all on this: already googling suppliers here in Belgium.

Just a point: When I ask for the tyres to be fitted, should I look at the date codes.?

Unscrupulous outfits could possibly hold on to older stock.? Never thought about that with my daily. How old would be acceptable when fitting 'new' tyres.?

But thinking....,here in Flanders, they're not going to hold stock of A008's in 10". They'll be from ordered from their supplier.

Popgom and oponeo are 2 good cheap belgian sites ^^
Ordered my falkens there ;)

To add to this, when Project Erm rocked up at our house he came with a set of Supalights sporting brand new tyres. Still had the coloured marks on them.

My lad decided he did not want the wheels but also he wanted to make some money from them so i refurbished them for him. Took the wheels to my local tyre shop and the idea was to take the tyres off, refurb the rims then refit them. Well as they started to take the first tyre off the bead basically fell to pieces. This happened on all four tyres.

Why?? well yes the tyres were new, however they had been fitted to a car that lived outside under a tarp, not kept in ideal conditions and guess what, yup it was like this for over five years. The only time they had rotated was to move the car around in the yard.

The rubber had perished although there were no signs of cracking. Checked the dates on the tyres and they were six years old. The tyre fitter said five years is the point of no return and unless they have been stored in optimum conditions then they are not fit for use.

New tyres fitted last year...

Wouldn't happen to be 145's Falkens by any chance?
What's up with 145 falkens? I have 165s on my lump and they seem pretty good.

Different compound but still rubbish compared to yoko`s

Over driving the car, I have 145/80/10 falken sincera and also 165/60/12 ziex ze914 and they are both good tyres

I had 4 brand new 145/70r12 sn828's fitted all round for a few years. The handling in the dry was okish, If the tyres were cold the rear would lock up under light braking below 15mph and in the wet it was twitchy and nervous just in a straight line. In a heavy down pour it was like driving on ice. Also two of mine perished on the sidewalls to the point of being dangerous (tyre blow out) with in 3 years with the tread only half worn.

The same car, with nothing done to the tracking (witch wasn't out) on 4 brand new 145/70r12 nankang is so much nicer to drive. The grip in the dry is about the same, but in the wet its soooo much better. I could if I wanted, drive just the same in the wet than I would in the dry.

NO advice is EVER ignored in here! and I am grateful to EVERYONE who has contributed! As I have said before, I've only had my 'pocket rocket' just over a year, (having always driven Rover Metro) and I love it to bits and if that's sounds sad or stupid I don't care!  I believe I DO drive the car sensibly. (how many members have been driving since 1974 and STILL have an unblemished record!) I've taken ALL the replies seriously. The local garage will check everything on Wednesday!

Thank you. ALL of you.

Jonathan

Jonathan,

In your original post you say the car pulls badly to right under heavy braking in the wet. Following up on some of the other suggestions, can I ask:

- any sign of pulling to right under heavy braking in dry?

- could it be back wheels starting to lock up? If this happens you can swap ends very quickly...

Would be very helpful if you can.give more specific details about your brake and suspension/tyres set-up

one thing to consider is that the road is supper slippery after a dry period, but a prolonged period of heavy rain cleans the road. It needs to be a good downpour though. Seems strange that it pulls to one side, so check the front brakes.

On reading of your problem, should you consider changing your name to brownbot?

Its interesting the op made the first post and has not made a further comment. Is he interested in our thoughts or just happy to let the members slug it out?

Actually I have replied to ALL of you collectively. I value everyone's help! As to what brakes I have! I don't know, but the car goes to the garage on Wednesday
