Me again >_<

Be driving my factory sportspack this week, and it has an earlier A+ fitted with the DSN oil filter housing and temp sender.

Now I used the MPi type replacement sender you can get from MInispares, and it's attached to the loom as per an MPi. The MPi doesn't send the oil temp to the ecu, solely a gauge.

On my original MPi engine, it would sit around 90 when driving my fast a/b road thrash to work, then on on the motorway crusing over 4k would hit around 120 degs max (rarely).

Now with a lower fd, I'm finding my oils getting to 120 when on the same a/b roads, and peaking at around 130 on the motorway, noticed engine temp creeping in traffic too.

I've done loads of research on oil temp, with loads saying theirs barely passes 90deg, but if measured from the sump, then its going to be cooler?

I was wondering what sort of oil temps people are getting with the dsn housing, i.e. straight out from the engine?

I'm seriously thinking of fitting an oil cooler to it at the weekend, not nice seeing that oil gauge go past 120 degs!

first thing would be to work out if the gauge is reading right, i suspect its fibbing

what gauge is it? MPI? and the sensor also MPI? original sensor or replacement.  is it somthing non standard as the YCB100320 is NLA?

its worth plotting the resistance curve, pretty easy to do up to 100deg C. then you can drop in a resistor and see what the gauge gives.

Thanks for the reply! Running the standard 170 deg mpi dial, and this sender. :

Totally get what you mean about resistance checking, im gonna check that out against the original type MPi sensor later today with some hot water to see what temp / resistance its readying.

Doing some research there were two types of rover sensor , 150 and 170 deg ones, the one from Minispares looks like a coolant sensor? Its an m12x1.5 thread, and i cant seem to find any 170 deg senders available, so maybe there's the issue? Will know more tonight when ive done the tests :)

Mmmm could be that the oil one has a different curve, if you plot at say room temp, 70 degree and 100 degree you should get a good idea what's going on.

Tried the senders tonight, and the original type one works perfect with the gauge, but is way too big for the dsn housing.

Managed to track down a nos 170deg mgf sender which has the m12 thread, which should be straight swap for the one in the filter head.

Typical really, when tested tonight the 'straight swap sender above was reading 30deg over at 50-80 degs
