Hello everyone!

How hard is it for to convert my MKIII Mini front end to a MKI?

Do I just need to change the grill or do I have to change the front panel and bonnet?

I would only do this to achieve my "Dream Mini" look.

Thanks in advance!

All you need to do is remove the bonnet flange by careful angle-grinding, fit a Mk.1 grill surround and grille, re-paint the bonnet edge if you damaged it whilst getting the flange off and it's all as a Mk.1.

However, you cannot fit a Mk.1 bonnet to a Mk.3 because the bonnet hinges are in a different place. The drillings for the bonnet badges are different for a Mk.1 as well, but that is not a problem really.

My Grandson did this on his 1997 MPI when he had it and we didn't even need to re-paint - but we were very careful with the angle-grinder.

I am sure there are re-manufactured bonnets available which have both hinge positions on the lids, think it could be MiniSpares

So you could just shave the lip off the bonnet or have a look for the dual hinge bonnet, this is the Mk1 look bonnet.

Not to sure which front indicators you may have, but you could also look for a pair of front glass amber lenses, instead of the plastic type which you may have ?

As Cooperman says, quite easy, just obtain the whiskers, grill moustache and grill, pretty much job done
