Will the early mk1/2 Cooper door trim fit on the mk3 door?
If you get what I mean

No they won't but Mini Spares do a different moulding for the MK3 onwards doors, so you need those.

i cant work that out, the top of the door is at lease 1" too small??? What then is different on the shell as there isnt a big flat part above a mk1 door in teh shell, and also, the rear windows fit a mk3 shell so the roof cant be a different height...

I dotn ge tit!

The door aperture is very different and on the Mk3 onwards there is less land over the top of the door edge. The side windows on the Mk3 are also taller.
A Mk1 rear window will not fit a Mk3.
In practice Mk1 and 2 shells are very different from later shells Mk3 onwards.

really confused now. Looking at the top of the door on this mk1, there isnt metal of like 2"

But on the pic of the mk1 door in the mk3 shell, there is 1" of metal, and more than 1" of door gap at the top. I dont get it?

right, i get it now, on a mk3 above the door is about 5mm on the mk1 its 20mm, so its 15mm different. In the above pic, it looks a lot more!

We have 2 mk3s and a van here so i measured yesterday!
