Does anyone know when in 1976 the Clubman changed from solid to rubber mounted front subframe? Do you have a 1976 registered clubman? Is it solid mounted or rubber?
Cheers

Chris Rees book 'The Complete Mini' says for Clubman it was May 1976.
Mini Clubman - May 1976:-
New subframe mounts fitted (Chassis Number XC2S2 341660 - Saloon, and XL2W2 330503 - Estate)
Also fitted new black grille, twin column stalks, new rocker switches, larger pedals from Allegro, moulded carpets, ignition lock from BL Princess, softer springs and damper settings (saloon only).

So his book says for the saloon, chassis number 341660 onwards was rubber mounted?
That's great info thank you
Might just be adding Chris Rees book to my Christmas List!

Reading this made me check something I had been meaning to do!
My Clubman which was first registered 07/01/78 vin no XC2S2-293****
has a solid, twin bolt subframe, twin stalks, and early type ign-lock,
It seems to point to the coach builders having had it for a couple of years!
before it was registered
I have the Chris Reeves book just never got round to checking.

I also saw the above on an imported Mini, twin bolt subby on a registered 78 model !
Pretty sure it was a radical change as when they changed the subbys, they also changed from rubber couplings on the driveshafts to inboard CV joints, and additionally putting the pear drop mount on the front of the front subframe

For what it's worth we had twin bolt solid mounted subframes to the end of production in December 1981.

Pot joints were being used before the subby changes. I reckon it'll be an accurate change point as they're major components that can't be interchanged. The pedals and lock may look like other models, but they won't be the same. I'm also dubious about the softer suspension claims.

Here in South Africa the standard Clubman 1275s which were built until the end of 83 had the twin bolt subby, inner pot joints and A plus gearboxes but retained the pre verto clutch. Also had front drum brakes ha ha

I did think that was the case in SA.
Our early 1275 Mokes also were fitted with Drum Brakes.
IIRC the Verto Clutch came was introduced in the UK around 1982 but we never got them here as our production finished in 1981 (1978 for Minis).
Rod shift came in 1974 and followed about 2 months latter with Pot Joints on most models, except the Moke that 'hung on to' the steel Hardie Spicer type joints for nearly a year longer, though the change over wasn't immediate.
