Good afternoon people,

I thought I would show people my door handle/puddle lights

They are a little bit different and I totally ripped the idea off my girlfriends new mini much to her annoyance!

Take one door handle covered in overspray

Take a strip of 3 leds from maplins and solder two thin wires (led so low current here)

drill holes in handle to line up with the leds

as you can see I have covered the electrical contact parts with heatshrink and the leds with hot glue from a glue gun. you could use electrical tape but heatshrink is much tidyer.

glue together, you will have to open out the handle partly with a drill bit to get the led strip to be lower than the handle.

Total cost

Leds -£1.29

Primer from Poundland - £1

Paint from Poundland - £1

Plus a bit of heat shrink/electrical tape and hot glue. If you poor like me and/or hot glue gun is broken/none existent use one of the sticks and a lighter to melt the glue. Optional holes drilled with a drill and drill bits.

Hope this is liked :) plan is to wire it into my remote central locking to have the lights come on when the car is unlocked or you could wire it to a switch

Lawrence

ps: will update this with a night time photo tonight

I'm loving how they look at night! I can't get the best photo as the outside light came on and I think for the drivers side one I will aim the led at the dip where you put your hand perhaps.

The leds are the same ones as my auto dipping rear view mirror so they will look good together

I like the look with the holes in them, but the look of the lights is not for me.

Leds have certainly opened up new opportunities for customisers of cars and bikes as well as an 'arms race' to have your caravan/tent lit up like a xmas tree whilst camping!
