Sorry if it's been asked before but has anyone built a front engined hayabusa mini? I want to know if it's possible to fit it all in and if things like the steering rack will be in the way.

Thanks

rack can be an issue as can bits sticking out of the bonnet there is a metalic blue clubman used on the track with one in the front.

Is it possible to build it without bonnet bulges? Or would I be better trying to get a modern R1 engine? I'm looking 190-200 out of it and the old R1 engines that the kits all fit are only 150ish

It seems that the common response from the kit car crowd is that the cross plane crank R1 doesn't suit a BEC in comparison to previous years. So given the price difference it looks like an earlier injected (circa '06) model would be more suited.

Appreciate the help, thanks. That's a shame, the cross plane crank would help a bit with the torque. What power would you expect from an earlier injected or carb model? And is turbocharging possible or is there just not enough space for cooling and airflow?

I imagine there's loads of space for cooling and airflow.

The issue with the bike engine is height rather than width

I think the R1 fits height wise but a hayabusa will need a bonnet bulge. I was just wondering if the space is available for the turbo and piping and if it's there I could go R1 turbo instead of hayabusa

If you don't mind having a clubman front, then the knight motorsport engineering R1 conversion is a great bit of kit. It uses the earlier R1 engine, but you have the option of turbocharging up to 300bhp. It also has a longer chain than some of the other conversions for better reliability. It uses equal length drive shafts and has a much larger gripper LSD to help eliminate torque steer. It's a proper bit of kit! https://www.facebook...rsport/?fref=ts

Sorry I've not had any time to progress mine. We're currently rewiring the whole car so will update some pictures when that finished

We've managed to fit one in the front of a clubman but its all really tight. (misses by 10-20mm) It fits under the bonnet if you angle the intake. The exhaust is real tight to. You'll see the pictures of how we did it on mine. The turbo was the simplest way to do the exhaust system and I feel least effected on the intake angle change to

If you want any more information I'll see what I can do

Thanks

Why would a crossplane crank not suite a bec?

At the recent Castle Combe Mini Action day there was a company called Vetechbusa who had their supercharged, front engined Busa powered Mini and it definitely needed no bulge in the standard round nose bonnet.
The M.D. of the company was very happy to chat and their engineering looked excellent.
Their website is vetechbusa.co.uk.

I have no affiliations to them - I was just very impressed with what I saw!

They've been discussed on here before and the quality looks excellent the downside is the price, IIRC the starting price of an NA version was in the region of £11k, so how much a blown one would be is anybodies guess.
