doing a mini van, its on a W plate. I was told it had a yellow tag master on it when i asked on here ages ago. I bought a new one, and the lowest port is bigger than the top one, the old one both where the same size.

Why is that? Does it matter? Any what sizes are the ends so i can make a pipe up,

thanks

The larger bottom port is for the rear brakes, the smaller top port is for the front brakes.  I think they are different sizes to better balance the front/rear brake bias.

The smaller port is 10mm and the bottom port is 12mm.

They were different sizes so when OEM fitted, the pipes couldn't be mixed up (in theory).

Do you know the thread sizes ?

The upper is M10 x 1.0 and the lower is M12 x 1.0.  Usually an adaptor is fitted to the lower port so an M10 x 1.0 fitting can be used and of course to circumvent Lockheeds attempts to make it idiot proof.

If you get stuck, I may be able to help you by either making you you replacement pipes or sorting a short adaptor out, but the pipe is only 8 inches long, so best off replacing the whole entity

You will find me easy enough on the web, I am not on here that much

Yes, Just the front bits had a bit of metric thrown in here and there, but even to their last days, it always remained UNF on the rear

Odd though, when the Mini Metro was in production, they took on Metric rear hoses, with metric unions on lines. The Mini was also still in production. But, they continued with UNF lines with the Mini.

As BL / Rover were short on cash in the early days, especially the 70,s and always liked to ease extra cost, and making a lot of parts which were generic to ease costs, the Metro took on Metric. You might have thought "why use metric on one and UNF on another",  why not take metric to the Mini and the Metro,

They did go bump not long after the Mini name was sold off to BMW, That was the end after every senior member in the management got their pension sorted after an ailing long struggling life I suppose..  The safety factor of the Mini did not help matters either I suppose,  but when I look at the Smart Car, I do wonder, Safety ! , Really !

Without any prejudice at all of course !
