As above what is the spec? Diameter and spline number so I can order a UJ to fit.

Cheers.

9/16" Dia x 36 spline.

If I recall, CBS has suitable joint.

guess where i had just been looking.

yep a step up UJ was what got me thinking. will be needing to change my seat. it was tight before and now, we it aint going there. so drop a new seat lower and fit a UJ and a decent set of bearings.

Ok, now a thought if i was to fit one UJ would i need to fit on or two support bearings on the other shaft?

i feel that two would be needed. i know on the GTM (extended Mini column) i just had a single bearing and used the rack as a second. No UJs just a long rod straight to the heart.

While 2 bearings to support the column sounds right and would be desirable, it would be difficult to set up and then maintain alignment given what you have to mount them on, unless a stout mounting frame was fabricated to support both mounts, that in turn was fastened to the body.

You'd be OK with a single mount.

Yes, and ideally a self-aligning bearing so hat it dous not need to be mounted extremely precisely. You get industrial things called pillow blocks that may be suitable, if they come in the right size. Or you could fit a needle roller inside a large rose joint or uniball to get the self-aligning feature.
