1275's in the States are expensive to buy used and will probably need rebuilding anyway easiest solution is to buy an engine from one of the bigger suppliers like minimania you can buy just an engine or complete engine and box. Depends on what you have fitted at the present time as to what other parts you may need if you decide to do a complete engine and box. If your 1098 came out of an Austin America you may well have the wrong gearshift extention and will need a different one for that conversion as well as the drive shafts, with just an upgrade on the engine and not gearbox you would use everything that is already fitted. Whatever way you decide it won't be a cheap job. Final drive ratio will need to be decided after you choose what sort of conversion you choose.

Yeah, good used Mini engines are not plentiful in the states, as for the diff ratio, a 3:44 is very common and a good ratio for town driving and 60mph speeds, you'll be turning just under 4K rpm.
If you want to run 70 or better a 3:10 would be better suited.
