Following on from the air gun thread which I didn't want to hijack and I'm still painting by hand the bits I can, but I want / need something for the bigger bits / laquer
I also want to get some air tools, so what bar do I need? Is 8 or 10bar sufficient?

I was looking at this
http://www.halfords....1&storeId=10001

Or this
https://www.machinem...pressor-with-a/

Help

I'll check the other thread for spray gun recommendations x

None of those are really suitable for air tools or full sized sprayguns. Best bet is a 3hp belt drive 14cfm or a hydrovane 3hp, although latter is expensive. There are some good deals on belt drive, some around the £300,
I have a Clarke industrial 3hp with 100 litre receiver and it works fine with most tools. Dont forget if painting budget for correct water traps and filters

I've got this one had it for over a year now I haven't used it for spray painting just blowing tyres up and blowing dirt out of the way.

It even comes with some handy attachments.

I have two compressors. One is a 3hp V twin 100 ltr Clarke unit and the other is a single cylinder 4hp 200ltr unit from Magnum.

The first one will run most air tools but not at full speed, however for painting i will be using this for my breathing air with a three stage filtration system.

The second

This runs everything, DA's high speed grinders etc and is perfect for spraying as well.

So going on from that, the bigger the better. It gives you the luxury of being able to use it for virtually anything you need it to do.

There is normally loads of secondhand stuff on ebay ... dont be put off if it's three phase, you can easily swap the motor over for a single phase one.

A lot depends on your budget. Machinemart do VAT free nights so an ideal time to buy the largest Clarke compressor you can afford.

The Magnum compressor I have you can get for £350 second hand. It's a big beastie, a tad noisy but will do anything you need to do in your garage.

I've got the 90 litre belt drive 14cfm from gtair.co.uk, can't fault it, used it for spraying and air tools.
