Hi, We've been having some problems with an Ignitor kit and giving poor running once fitted.

Once fitted and retimed to suit, it runs like a condenser going down in an old points type system. I have since refitted points/condenser and it runs fine but we've already had a condenser go down over a weekend so ideally, I would like to go with the Ignitor kit.

We have tried a direct power feed to the kit but it still runs poorly. We also run a sports coil which should be fine according to the instructions with the kit.

The distributor is a earlier type clamp/2bolt fixing rather than the A+ fork clamp and I'm wondering if a poor earth is to blame. Anyone come across this problem before with this kit?

No had the Aldon on mine with a sports coil and the Aldon Red wire direct on the Coil + and the Black on the Coil -, no issues

You mention a direct power feed to the kit? where was it fed before ? and what car is it fitted on ?

I have a powersparks one in at the moment, the first one caused a slight mis-fire which we had to confirm with a strobe light. Second one fitted and seems to run ok now.

Thanks for the replies.

Yep, Red to + side, Black to -. It's on a race car which has very simple wiring with a positive feed from a switch fed from the battery. I bypassed the switch and ran the red side of the ignitor straight from the battery but it was just the same.

We actually have two kits, one is fitted to a A+ type Lucas dizzy and that engine runs fine. This one on an earlier dizzy body though (The one with the pinch clamp) and just doesn't run clean.I'm wondering how sensitive to a good earth they are as this is the only thing I can think of. (Unless it's knackered of course)

Dont leave the switch on too long. atleast my powerspark warns not to do this as it could try the module

I don't think they matter if it's earthed or not? It's a simple open and closed switch to trigger the coil. Not like the points which uses the earth through the distributor body.
