We have a 1961 Morris Mini Minor with the original gearbox which I believe is called a '3 Synchro Magic Wand'.

The laygear and 1st & 2nd gear synchro hub have damaged teeth (pictures attached). I understand this laygear is a Pre A & B Type without markings called a Cone Type, discontinued in 1962.

Tooth count on the laygear is 13, 19, 24, 28 and count on main shaft gears is 32, 28, 23, 19.

Wondering if any other laygear will interchange as apparently what we've got is quite rare. If a swap is possible I'm guessing we would need corresponding synchro hubs as well.

thanks in advance,

Brian

It'll most likely be an A Type Constant Pressure type Gearbox.

First Gear / Synchro Hub P/N 22A433. The outer tracks for these can sometimes be found, but it's advised that a complete hub assemble be obtained as there were a lot of on-going Gearbox changes in production around this time.   https://www.7ent.com...hro-22a433.html

Sometime, one needs to venture beyond :proud:   Mini Spares are a great supplier, and usually where I'll look first, but there are many other great suppliers around the world.

Just one other 'thing' I'd like to pass on. There maybe a large number us used parts that you're looking for for your gearbox available, however, I'd suggest, where ever possible, always go new, as the work involved to swap out parts in the gearbox quickly diminished any perceived savings. And I feel that these new parts aren't that expensive.
