Rubber Plinths/gaskets Required For Mountney Door Mirrors?

Best Answer JessH , 06 September 2017 - 03:52 PM

I think I have some spare Rubber gaskets/Plinths at home,  I will check and get a pick up latter.

That's really kind of you thank you Jukesr, though situation now resolved, you'd best hold on to them in case you need them, they seem to be like gold dust!

Mountney and OpieOils both rang me back this morning. Mountney to confirm they always include the gaskets, OpieOils to say 'oh yes we do have the gaskets included' aaaaarrrhrhrrhh. Told them I hope they're extra shiny to make up for all this hassle. I did notice several of the mini parts people are selling a plastic backed chrome, whereas Mountney is chrome on brass.

Thanks to everyone who answered me :)

This is not exactly a tech question, on the other hand it doesn't fit anywhere else? I've just purchased a pair of Mountney chrome door mirrors from OpieOils, who don't supply the plinths, (I would have called it a gasket, but mini spares who do the oval shape, call it a plinth).

They are CMFD-L and CMFD-R, and have the Austin mini door mounting (according to Mountney, who won't supply them to the public). They are an exact replacement for mine (no chrome left) and my rubber plinths are badly perished and cracked. I've tried mini spares (wrong shape plinth) Wood and Pickett, and mini sport. Smiffy's bits only do steel bits, and can't think of any other companies? Any suggestions/help very gratefully received?

Thanks, not having any luck on ebay, several for the Tex mirror, none for the Mountney, will try Bullmotif.

Nope just tried them too, they only have the Tex plinth as well. Cannot believe it's so hard to find a rubber gasket for a mirror made by Mountney, they're hadly an unknown make! I was buying their stuff back in the 70's....

Thanks for the suggestion though, it was worth a look.

Looks like I should have bought from the picture above, they supply the wretched thing. Didn't see their ad until after I'd ordered though

Turns out the company pictured above, only have the right hand mirror, who would have thought it could be so difficult to sort out new mirrors the same as the old? Have now found mini spares do a plastic chrome version with gaskets, but mine are chrome on brass, maybe I'll send mine away for rechroming in the winter, crazy though it sounds. Any suggestions for good re-chromers appreciated?

Now spoken to Mountney again, person who answers phone said doesn't know if they're supposed to come with gaskets? so told her Old Skool said they do, but only have the bullet shape, and you can't fit them without, so she finally agreed will look into it and get back to me tomorrow. Meanwhile I've had to ask OpieOils if I can cancel my order with them for the gasketless mirrors. Told her I was trying really hard to buy their product, and could she please give me a name of a supplier as she won't sell me any. Patience required, and getting in rapidly more short supply!!!!

Buy a sheet of rubber, cut to size with a craft knife.

Don't the proper ones have a raised edge on them, like the number plate light one does? It's a workable idea though, and if all else fails I will do that, thanks
