my car is a 1986 advantage,, it has a mk1 grill on it now, but i managed to get the original grill back for it off the last owner.

Now, i was expecting a nimbus grey grill with austin blue/green flash. but this one is black, and i thought there was some shielding behind it to cover the dizzy etc, but there isnt, also no badge.

Is that the original grill?

Also, what colour should the gutter trim be? Grey i would have thought?

thanks

Nimbus grey would be correct.

Sounds like it had a non original grille fitted before as well. The previous owner may have thought it was correct???

Good nimbus grilles are hard to find so may need to find the correct type grille and paint it nimbus and finish it off with a new badge of the correct type.

Gutter trims should also be nimbus but they are like rocking horse...Good luck finding a set of those  :ohno:

You can, but if its the type on a roll, what you would have to do if fit it to the car first. Then either remove it and rub down and paint it or paint it while on the car. As i can't see, even with plastic primer, how the paint wouldn't crack, peal or chip if you painted loosely coiled up and then fitted it to the car afterwards.

black it is then!

going to try to get as much of the little bits finished now as i can, the grill, and things like i bought the right style dash, but the wrong make, for it. The smiths ones seem to be really hard to get, but the nippon seiki ones easy, i won some on ebay but with black surround,  so will paint those now.

I need to stop rushing this project or itll end up a polished turd, want it to be like factory.

The smiths twin dials do turn up, but the Nippon ones are more readily available. I've got a set of the smiths grey faced twin dials, but they aren't complete as I robbed parts from them to fix my not so rare, but bloody expensive 1275 gt dials.

Also the dial trim should be grey with black rings. But as far as i know they was never a black 2 dial surround, with them only being greys and browns. So it if it's a black one, it may well have already been painted.

thanks mate, the advantage had the offset 3 dials, but with the grey cover, black rings, dials with orange needles, and lots of increments on the speed.

Smiths did the proper ones, and nippon seiki did ones very simular.

Smiths have the odometer the same style as a center speedo, nippon are more rounded numbers, plus there is a number like 6057-a1 on them, non on the smiths...

unless you knew that, i dont think you would be able to tell...
