So it begins. This is "Min".
My wife inherited this car from her Grandmother who has owned it from new. It was bought and registered on New Years Day 1973 and used as a run around until 7 or 8 years ago. It has been garaged its whole life and has only done 26,242 miles so that works out at less than 590 miles a year.... that is crazy.
Anyway, When "she" got retired a few neighbours and acquaintances started sniffing around after the car but we took it on with a view to making it last a bit longer as a family heirloom and rightly so.
This won't be fast. We moved house and got garage space 2 years ago now and since then nothing has happened other than the arrival of 2 kids. If I'm lucky my kids can learn to drive in it when they are old enough
so here we go with the photo's
The colour is fading but is Teal Blue. The interior is Yellow Diarrhoea Vinyl. The plan is to keep her original and put as much of her bits back as possible onto a rust free shell. Isn't that what we all plan?
The underside has rust all around the edges but its not as horrific as a lot of the threads on here so good semi solid base to start from.
nearside A-panel not too bad but ....
something is lurking on the offside including the scuttle.
boot floor is going to need work too. but finally the best bit...
need to do something with this. The roof is very good apart from the back nearside drain area. It does however have a large dent. This is the result of my Mother-in-law's blind drunk boyfriend falling onto the car during a successful attempt to break into my Wife's grandparents house whilst they were away on holiday. You can't make it up. The dent needs to go though despite the entertaining back story.
Future posts are likely to be shorter than this one but this is why we are here and restoring these cool little cars. They have histories and that gives them character.
