Hi all. In my quest to get my mini mot ready I fired her up today, let her warm up and went for a quick spin around the corner. When I pulled back into the drive way the clutch pedal has gone prettt much to the floor and have very little movement. With the engine running I can no longer select gears as it just crunches... I did quickly try bleeding the clutch and got no air bubbles but still the pedal isnt right...

Problem 2!
When trying to start the car once it had warmed up it didnt feel like the starter motor was strong enough to spin the engine. I turned the key and got a horrible screeching noise.. I put the car in gear and rocked her back and forward a bit. Tried to start her again and she fired straight up...

The car hasnt been on the road since 1999 so o dont know if this is a case of things getting hot and moving for the first time in so long but any advice Is really appreciated.
Thanks all

How would I know if it is the slave cylinder on the gear box or the master cylinder connected to the clutch pedal??

With the age of the car and the time it has stood it is 100% certain that all the clutch and brake hydraulics are rotten. For safetys sake you should replace them all.

Well the previous owner has done a lot of work

looking in the engine bay the clutch master cylinder looks pretty new and shiney (in comparison to the brake master cylinder) which I have now replaced..

so ill start with the clutch slave and if thats still no good ill come up with a plan B as I dont want to waste money replacing perfectly good parts.

one small problem...

Try a local Factor and see if they have a Delphi one in stock. I found it was less money and the quality is excellent.

Sorry, we currently have no Clutch Slave Cylinder catalogued and available for a Rover Mini 1.0 (1984) online.

If the minispares non genuine one has been used by people on here thats good enough for me! you lot are fussy enough that I trust it will work haha

The car has been standing for 18 years and the hydraulic parts are shiny on the outside - but I can guarantee the hydraulics on the inside are toast as hydraulic fluid absorbs moisture. I can see you will be replacing brake cylinders too.

Hows the radiator coolant; I would imagine that is all rusty water too.

Trust the engine was stored with fresh clean oil too - old oil (18 years) plays havoc with the engine/gearbox internals due to acids and water.

You really need to do a thorough inspection of all major components before getting it back on the road.

I have already replaced the brake master cylinder
The previous owner fitted new calipers and brake lines and rear slave cylinders on the drums.

Oil was fresh when I purchased the car but I dropped this out as I had to put a heli coil on the sump plug so put new oil/filter back in which I plan on changing again once the car has done Its first proper journey and dislodged any 18 year old gunk that is in there!

Radiator coolant looks normal from what I can see but Im sure there would be no harm in me putting some fresh in for peace of mind.

Ill add coolant to my shopping list!
