any ideas what's going on with the below and my horns?

Recently replaced horns on my mk1.  Attached live feed to +ve terminal, and earthing is done via the custom bracket.  Went to test, switched on ignition...and the horns went off without me pushing anything.

Checked the horn push to see if stuck...it wasn't

Checked +ve feed...it's constant

 

I then isolated the bracket, and attached the original earthing lead to horn.

Swithced on ignition..no horn sound.  

Pushed horn push, sound went off.  Perfect!

 

Howver...I'm now confused.  Why would i have a contstant feed, and also why would it work correctly by attaching the original earth lead.

 

Any ideas?

 

I have yet to trace the wiring back from the horns yet....

That's how they were designed to work.... Constant +v to the horn & the switching done via the earth side (horn push).

Permanent live feed makes perfect sense. Imagine if you're in the car & some muppet doesn't see you & tries to reverse into you -the last thing you need is a desperate scrabble to insert the key & turn on the ignition before you can sound the horn.
