Got my inner tubes today for my split rims. it says on the packet that if they are fitted with splits than i should use "flaps"

what the hell are "flaps"?

should i soap up the edge of the tyre to help them pop on properly when i fill the inner tubes?

Any other info and advice on fitting the tubes and tyres would be great!!

Got a Head gasket set today aswell. It says that it comes with the BK450 gasket but it isn't marked on the Gasket at all is that right? Just wondeing as it it says it is a genuine rover set and i didnt realise the BK 450 was a Gen part.

Cheers

Think flaps are like rubber bits which cover the bolts ( like they have on bike wheels to cover the spke ends )

On the other hand could be completely wrong !

and head gasket, if it's black it's a BK450

BK450 - black, kind of tacky to the touch, shiney, silver fire ring, coper rings around the front water passages and oil passages and overall aprox 1mm thick.

And used on all 1275s from about 1987

Right i have the tyres now and started building one of the wheels etc up.

will it be ok to use soapy water to help the tyre pop over the edge of the silver part of the wheel?

will get pics to help make sense of what i just said if it helps

Ever tried to fit a steel belted radial over a rim? You'll need more than soapy water mate. Why do you think tyre levers for cars are about three feet long rather than six inches like for a cycle? And why the rim is bolted down to a table for the fitting? Still not sure about the legality of tubes inside tubeless tyres even if you are using split rims....

he is spliting the rims to fit the tires so wont need to use tyre levers

Tubes wont be illegal as long as the tyre is ok and your not fitting the tube because the tubeless on is leaking/ split etc. I've had it done at tyre fitters/suppliers in the past and they have even suggested it.
