I'm replacing the timing chain on my car as its been rattling round in the casing and causing the car to drive badly.

Thing is the original chain was fitted with a tensioner, so do i refit the tensioner to the duplex? Can this be done? Or do i just leave it off?

Fit the tentioner with a new pad and it'll be fine. Not to much tention on it either. Enough to alow wear of the pad and retain some tention.

If your using the vernier or anything other than the original cast duplex gears, you will have to remove the baffle that is spot welded to the cover. It is close, but you can just about get away with leaving it on, if using the original cast item, like i did.

this is the chain I have.

I don't have a new pad for the tensioner, i bought everything i thought i would need and then started, i have no way of getting one now until i have finished the job, i need the car for the weekend.

this is the cover.....

.....and these are the chains, the old one on the left, and the new duplex type on the right, although it looks different to the one minispares have displayed on their site.

Even on an A+?....thats what i wanted to hear....relief.

Will i still have to knock the baffle out, or can you get away with it on that chain....I don't want to have to do this all again if im wrong.....

Yes, I've always taken the baffle out, and there's a little dent by the oil seal which will also need tapping out..

I used a tensioner with mine.its there so i thought i might as will use it,had to get a new pad tho,the old one was snapped in half :gimme:
I didnt have to do any work to my cover :gimme: but it turns over without anything rubbing.

As far as I can remeber, no A+ 1275 had a duplex timing chain as standard, and hence the need for the tensioner to take up the slack on the single.. A duplex chain should not need one..

slack on 1 side will always happen because one side is leading the other so as 1 side is pulling the other side tension is formed there slack will form on the opposite side...if that makes sence
