I have to change the clutch oil seal in my 81 pickup over the winter, because more and more oil is dripping out of the clutchhousing.

There are 3 seals available at minispares. Are they all interchangeable? Or is the first one just for newer cars?

Which seal do you recomend?

LUF10005 Genuine Mini Spares product in Viton

13H2934 This seal is the standard aftermarket item and adequate for standard use

13H2934MS This is Mini Spares copy of the original gaco seal

I use the http://minispares.co.../13H2934MS.aspx and I've never had any problems with it.

The main issue comes from fitting it. Its imperative you protect the seal from the splines on the primary gear when you install it. Either use the special tool or if you haven't got it, tape up the leading edge of them with some masking tape.

This, I used tape and a drop of oil and the seal slid on perfectly. I also use the same type of seal as Northern posted above.

I will buy the special tool for the seal and also the clutch removing tool. because this is not my first and not my last mini. :-)

And what size of BREAKER BAR do you recomend to remove the clutch?

If you've got more than one Mini I suggest you either buy or rent one of these from John http://www.guess-wor...lay.htm?id=501. As far as the breaker bar goes, let's just say medium scaffold pole :proud:

with the guessworks puller you don't need a long bar.

I use insulation tape with a coating of oil on before placing the transfer box. Isn't masking tape (paper type) a bit rough?

Until I got the special tool I always used masking tape and never had a problem. Obviously there are different makes of tape but the one I used didn't seem to be too rough and certainly didn't cause a problem especially with a little covering of oil on it.
