All depends om what you want too. In had a 1275, evo001 cam from minispares, lightened flywheel, mg metro head. Was around 80bhp, and I really loved the smooth ride with lots of torque.

People are going to shoot me but... Drop a 1275 in it. Thats the cheapest pound/HP.

A 1275 sounds like a good engine to start. I’ve been looking at 7 ports too, I’ll have a look at some builds, cheers!

I agree whole heartily with this.
The money they you'll spend on getting a 998 to make similar power to a standard 1275 will usually be around similar money that you'll get a 1275 for.
There also seems to be a wider range of 'go-fast' goodies for the 1275 too.

The 7 port is a great solution but whether it's worth it over a properly set up 5 port is another question. The drivability on mine is great but its not a low cost option.

Perhaps a future investment then! But I’ll definitely be on the look out for a 1275. I’ve been wondering about buying a 1275 half engine kit that jonspeed do.

Have you considered the VMax Scart supercharger kit? Im wondering where to go next with my 998 having just cracked the heavily skimmed 12G295 cylinder head. The kit makes some lovely torque even on a 998.
72 bhp I just read for a 998?! That's crazy. I'm nearing 100,000 miles now though, would you say that an older engine would be a problem with adding a supercharger?
