Can someone diagnose a whistling type of sound?
When starting up there is a split second or so of what sounds like a whistling sound until the ignition catches which it always does first time
Then it disappears
Makes no difference if the clutch is in or out and the car drives great
The belt is also ok
Any ideas?

take belt off bottom pulley , does whistle go away ?

if it does , it is probably the alternator

mine whistles / hums , until the light goes off

also some belts whistle / screech a tiny bit till they  warm up

could also be a pulley not inline with the others , this gives the belt less force / traction on one side , sometimes leading to a squeak

another possibility is an air leak - even the SU can make a hissing noise at some revs

after a second read -  is it starter motor ?
