not that i'm saying I haven't changed my engine block number with the DVLA since fitting my recon morspeed engine, but will they check this against the DVLA one during an MOT?

woohoo,
got the old girl booked in for tomorrow lunch time, hopefully the very minor rust around the windscreen wont be a problem, and the tape on the bottom of the door will be ok. Then at some point over the next few months I can actually deal with the rust, just can't afford not to have her pass straight away.

No the engine number isn't checked at mot.
I rang the DVLA about getting a new engine number for mine a while ago but they said don't worry about it, as long as the engine size is correct on the log book it doesn't matter. The guy on the phone said the engine number isn't really important, the chasis number is all they're worried about.

if your engine doesnt have a number then i THINK you can make your own number up.if it has been worked on that is.
as long as you get it chnaged so it matches the logbook then i can't see it being a problem.
I amn sure there was one in one of the mags that was the names of the father and son who built it

The only time an MOT tester needs to check an engine number is when they are identifying the engine type for an emissions test.
There are some instances where the tester may need to verify engine type/number, like if someone claims to have fitted an older engine to a newish car (in which case they would emissions test it to the age of engine, not the car).
