I have a speedo problem but its not that simple...

The car is a 1993 sprite 1275 auto; however the engine/gearbox has just been replaced with a manual 1275GT engine (from an older era).

The clock/display panel is right hand side without a rev counter (as 1993 sprite auto).

The original (sprite) speedo cable is being used on the existing display panel and a test run has shown up a problem.

There is no movement on the speedo needle and the cable clicks when the car is travelling along.

I will remove the display panel and check the length of the cable but I wondered if there could be a more simple problem viz the rotation direction of the cable.

Its just a thought.

Has anyone had a similar problem?

Sounds like an engagement or wear issue somewhere(my bet is the gearbox end of the Speedo cable)

Even if it did work odds of it bring right are slim. It's not fitted properly or is worn and needs replacement

Is the odometer  still rolling over? If not it's probably the cable if you can here clicking from inside the car.

I have removed the cable from the clock inside the car.

The speedo works and winds on by hand from the back of the clock.

The plastic end of the cable has a fibre washer to engage in the cable push clip on the cable end which could be holding off the drive at the engine end.

I need more info. perhaps a long cable in the existing sleeve will tell me if its a length issue.
