Hi I have a 1996 SPI & have recently fitted LED's needless to say indicators & hazards now run at top speed. I did purchase a new relay. I stupidly thought is was the middle yellow ( row of 3 four pronged yellow ones) relay in engine bay (as I loose indicators when unplugged) on left but apparently not. Have searched forums for its location & they vary according to year ? Have seen suggestion located behind instrument panel but wanted to check before I start stripping parts out. Any point in the right direction would be really appreciated. Thanks

The one under the bonnet is just a normal relay. You should be able to hear it click, once, when you turn the ignition on and if the indicators work at all it's good.
The flasher unit behind the dash will have 3 spade contacts and should work with leds anyway.

the way I see it is the current drawn by the led isn't enough to hold the circuit open (bulb off) long enough , so even a new relay won't fix the problem
also IIRC these resistors get quite warm ,so they may need a heat sink in certain circumstances
wait till someone cleverer with sparks , comes along to confirm / deny what I said , as I am not totally sure
edit - you may be able to get a special relay to do the job ? that works with the lower amperage led ?
there is a pic on the net of all the relay's etc positions - but I can't find it anywhere

All I can say purchased from ebay specifically made for the Mini & the seller sold a resistor for them. Sold hundreds with positive feedback so hoping when I find where to plug it in they will work.

The relay and flasher are different things. The relay enables the indicators when you turn on the ignition the flasher unit has a permanent supply because it also runs the hazards. The flasher unit is behind the instruments

Thanks TMF Team, what I was sent was a 12v flasher for LED which you confirm is located behind instruments. Could I just check will I need to replace both ? Thanks very much for locating it for me !

Thanks Ethel for the help. Yes have the leds fitted and they work Its just the speed, which I am sure once the replacement flasher unit is fitted behind dash will slow them to an acceptable speed. I just couldn't find out where its located, I'm no mechanic.
