Yes, here is another one of these topics!
The thread for the Sump Drain Plug has completely stripped on the gearbox I'm currently rebuilding, not helped by the fact that a previous owner had used a Ford sump plug with a completely different thread size! As for repairing it, I think I have a couple of options:
1. Use a helicoil and keep using the standard mini sump plug (not the Ford one I removed!)
2. Use a bigger sump plug from another manufacturer (eg: VW, etc. One that's easily available and "off the shelf") and drill the hole out and re-tap the threads.
I remember seeing another thread on here about doing option 2 using a repair kit bought off eBay and it working well but the sump plugs didn't have any magnets and I'd like to use a sump plug with a magnet.
Which option would be better in the longer term? (The gearbox and engine will be used in a Daily Driver but that probably won't make any difference)
