I am overhauling the car and need a new rear backplate and wheel cylinders. It is for the passenger side.
Have looked at minispares website and they list the backplate as left hand or right hand.
Which one is it that i need? Is it like Im sat in car so left hand or as Im looking at it from front so right hand?
Also, the wheel cylinder says it came come with a gasket. When I took my old cylinder off, it didnt have one. Are they required or is it for certain years? Mines an 1985 model
Thanks

What is the purpose of the gasket if its not a necessity?

I have never bothered with the gaskets.
They are fitted to take any squeak or rattle from them. If you can hear them, I think your ear is too close to the back wheels.

So that is the reason! I always wondered, because water gets into the drums around the edge so why try to seal it at the cylinder mounting face? I never used them anyway. because at one time the mainstream dealer network supplied the genuine Lockheed/AP item in its box with no gasket. It was not stocked and had to be ordered specially.
