Hi - newbie here looking for a Mini circa 2007 - 2009. Taking a look at two today - 1.4 & 1.6. Any specific I should be worried about?

Already have lose gear lever (poss gearbox prob), rattle on startup (timing chain) on my list of things to check. Other than other standard checks anything specific I should be checking for?

Thank you

We are more tailored towards the classic mini on here, several BMW mini sites knocking around would give you better answers, however......
The R56 N14 engine is a complete and utter dog. As you have already mentioned cold start tractor noises indicate a knackered timing chain tensioner. In addition expect to replace your thermostat housing often as it's made of cheap plastic, 4 hour pig of a job fir the DIYer or £800 plus garage fees to have it done for you.
If you can afford it get a post 2013 car as it has the newer N18 engine fitted.
