ive always found heater and scraper as above, but i have found that prewarm the deadening a bit, then when you start scraping heating the actual scraper cuts it really well...
Horrible job if your doing lots of it. use tar and glue remover if you want to get it properly clean,

Always done the opposite! Freeze spray or a cold day and just hammer and chisel.
Then thinners to clean it up or similar.

I agree with jonny f - do it cold and it is a lot less messy, breaks off in coaster sized chunks.

I got mine off in the cold and an electric vibrating chisel.

Yep, `cold for me to. I tap the top a few times and use a thin scraper to get under neath.

An old wood chisel moved it for me without any heat, hold the chisel at a low angle to get it under the edge of the mat and tap it with a light hammer. Very satisfying when a big bit flakes off like toffee out of a tray.

Some bits come off cold in big chunks, the difficult bits warm up and scrape off.

Don't forget to wear goggles and gloves as it goes everywhere!
